Pilot Training
in Spain.
EASA-certified training with genuine year-round flying weather — a middle-ground option between the USA's fleet scale and Greece's price advantage, popular with Indian students targeting the European licence route.
| Licence system | EASA-certified training |
| Flying weather | Year-round flying conditions |
| Typical duration | 12–18 months |
| Positioning | Middle ground between the USA’s fleet scale and Greece’s price advantage |
| Pathway | DGCA ground school in Bengaluru → EASA flying in Spain → DGCA licence conversion |
Spain sits in the middle of the European pricing spectrum — more expensive than Eastern Europe's budget schools, generally more affordable than premium UK academies, with weather good enough to support consistent flying. The real cost driver for Indian students isn't tuition alone; it's the EASA-to-DGCA conversion overhead every European licence carries.
Cost & Timeline
Integrated EASA CPL/ATPL programmes in Spain are reported anywhere from roughly €60,000 at the more competitive end to €100,000+ at established academies — pricing varies significantly by school and whether the course is integrated or modular. Training typically runs 12–18 months depending on the school and weather at the specific base. Budget separately for accommodation (€400–€1,200/month), study materials, and exam retake fees if needed.
| Factor | Spain |
|---|---|
| Regulator | EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency) — ICAO-compliant |
| Tuition | Roughly €60,000–€100,000+ for integrated CPL/ATPL, varies widely by school |
| Flight training duration | 12–18 months, weather-dependent |
| Visa | Schengen national (Type D) student visa for non-EU citizens |
| Type rating | Not included — budget €20,000–€35,000 separately if self-funding |
The EASA→DGCA Conversion Reality
This is the part most Spain-based flight schools underplay. An EASA CPL requires DGCA's standard foreign-licence conversion — 4 DGCA theory papers, conversion flying, RTR, and a Class 1 medical if not current — typically ₹3–8 lakh and 3–6 months if you prepared before departure. The reverse (DGCA to EASA) is far heavier: full EASA ATPL theory (14 subjects), which is why most Indian students go EASA-to-DGCA and not the other way. Choose a school with genuine DGCA conversion experience, not just a general claim of "international recognition."
Does the school have documented experience specifically supporting DGCA conversion for Indian graduates — or do they just say the licence is "internationally recognised"? EASA training is genuinely rigorous, but the conversion overhead is real and school-specific support varies enormously. See our 8 questions to ask any school abroad before you commit.
