Choosing a pilot-training academy
How to compare pilot-training academies in Bangalore
Compare what each provider actually teaches, who operates the flying training and what your written quotation includes.
Start with the training you need
A ground-school academy, a flying school and an airline cadet programme perform different roles. A Bangalore classroom location alone does not tell you where you will fly or who will issue your training contract. Ask each provider to identify its role and the organisation responsible for every stage.
| Provider or pathway | What to compare | Evidence to request |
|---|---|---|
| DGCA ground-school academy | Subjects taught, RTR preparation, instructor experience, class format and student support | Current syllabus, timetable, named instructors and written ground-course fee |
| Flying school | Training location, applicable approval, fleet availability, flight-hour scope and completion conditions | Current regulator listing, school contract, aircraft/hour breakdown and refund terms |
| Ground school with an overseas pathway | Who provides the flying, support before departure and the plan for returning to India | Named flying school, separate contracts and fees, visa responsibilities and conversion assessment |
| Airline cadet pathway | Selection stages, training provider, employment conditions and type-rating arrangements | The airline’s current published programme and individual offer terms |
Questions to ask before choosing an academy
- Who teaches each subject? Ask for instructor names, relevant experience and access to faculty when you need help.
- What does the fee cover? Separate classroom training, flying, living expenses, exams, medicals, travel, conversion and type rating. Compare quotations with the same scope.
- Where will you actually fly? Obtain the flying-school name, location and applicable approval. A ground-school academy’s brand does not substitute for the operating school’s documents.
- What can change the timeline? Ask how weather, aircraft availability, exam re-sits, visas and extra training affect the schedule and fees.
- How are refund and extra-hour costs handled? Get the answer in writing before making a payment.
- What is the conversion plan? For overseas flying, obtain an assessment of your individual requirements before treating a foreign licence as the end of the journey.
- What evidence supports student outcomes? Request genuine, recent examples and distinguish completing training from securing airline employment.
